We are a foundation that seeks to develop media literacy and artificial intelligence literacy skills in consumers and creators of media messages to enable them to make informed choices about media content and media services; use media services and media content in a safe way; create media content and participate responsibly, ethically and effectively in various forms of communication.
Media Literacy is a key that unlocks the meaning behind the messages we see, and allows us to be more thoughtful and deliberate as we create our own messages – such as those we create and share on social media.
There is little to no media and artificial intelligence literacy training in Ghana and other African countries, a situation that leaves consumers and creators of media messages vulnerable to the negative effects of the media. Our mission is to make Ghanaians aware of the kind of messages they consume and to analyse, reflect and act on them positively.
They should be able to tell who or what created the message; what creative techniques or tools were used to create the message; how might different people understand the message differently from them; what lifestyles, values and points of view are represented in, or omitted from the message; and why is the message being sent.
Our vision is to enable beneficiaries of our programmes to access information from a variety of sources; analyze and explore how messages are “constructed” whether through social media, print, verbal, visual or multimedia; evaluate media’s explicit and implicit messages against one’s own ethical, moral and/or democratic principles; express or create their own messages using a variety of media tools, digital or not; and participate in a global media culture by using the power of information, communication, and artificial intelligence to make a difference in the world.
